Why Prism exists

Why Prism Exists.

Aging is often approached through separate lenses—research, education, technology, and community life. Prism brings those perspectives together, recognizing older adults as contributors whose knowledge, memory, and experience help shape stronger communities.

How we work

Research-informed. Community-rooted. Human first.

A diverse group of adults collaborating on research documents during a discussion about aging and community initiatives.

Research-Informed

We use inquiry, evidence, and reflection to shape practical aging initiatives.

A diverse group of people, including older adults and younger participants, collaboratively reviewing architectural plans, historical documents, and community research materials.

Community-Rooted

We build with communities, guided by local context and lived experience.

Human First

We put dignity, relationships, and accessibility at the center of research and innovation.

Rooted in Community

Committed to community impact.

Rooted in East Texas and the Piney Woods region, Prism connects institutions and community organizations around aging-focused education, research, and intergenerational initiatives. Older adults participate as contributors of knowledge, culture, memory, and lived experience.

Prism is at its best when helping people and organizations find common purpose. We work with organizations that want to do meaningful work with older adults but need help turning vision into a practical path forward.

Whether the goal is a research project, community initiative, intergenerational program, technology pilot, or preservation-focused partnership, Prism helps bring the right people into the right conversation.

A Note from Dr. Roberts

I created Prism Gerontology because I believe aging deserves a better story.
Too often, older adults are discussed only in terms of need, risk, or decline. Those realities matter, but they are not the whole picture. Older adults also carry knowledge, memory, humor, resilience, culture, and experience that can strengthen families, institutions, and entire communities.
My work is about building bridges — between generations, between research and practice, between technology and dignity, and between institutions and the people they serve.
Prism Gerontology exists to help communities see the full spectrum of aging, and to build meaningful work from what we discover there.
